Tinnitus is the medical term to describe noises heard in the ears or
head. These sounds have no external source (although to the sufferer they do).
Tinnitus symptons can be persitent, even chronic. It can be annoying, frightenting,
depressing and debilitating. For others it is simply a nuisance. Sometimes
tinnitus noise beats in time with your pulse - this is known as pulsatile tinnitus.
For further information see this link (the RNID factsheet on Pulsatile tinnitus)
Tinnitus is not a disease, nor is it life-threatening, it can happen
at age and is rarely linked to any serious problem. Sufferers usually
learn to manage it quite successfully.
